The concept of friendship and improving social skills are important goal areas that we work on in music therapy. This post highlights a friendship activity that was designed for Valentine’s Day, but it can be adapted to be used anytime of year.
Kids love friendship bracelets! Making them is a great way to work on fine motor skills and creativity. You can find beads and jingle bells in all colors, shapes and sizes. Using pipe cleaners, will make stringing the beads and bells easier. I found the directions for this activity, as well as a fantastic song about friendship here, in a post by Cristi on the website, “How Does She?“. Bianca Merkley, is a talented music therapist who composed the interactive song to go along with this activity. See her video below.
This activity can be adapted for different age groups and abilities. Our kiddos had a blast making these last week and playing them with their friends!
